Shades of Blue

The theme of this month's poetry collection is the colour blue, which also happens to be my favourite colour. I hope you will enjoy what I have to share.

In addition to my own poetry I have included two verses written by a talented poet and Twitter friend of mine called Joe Praks. Joe shares his poetry on a daily basis on Twitter and his inspired words always add a ray of sunshine to my day.

The first poem was inspired when I spotted an almost hidden wave of colour in a shady corner of my back garden. It brought back memories of a beautifully illustrated book my Mum had as a child about fairies at the bottom of the garden.

Hidden Blues
by Jill Webb

There's a corner of my garden
Where no-one ever goes,
Where silky spiders' webs
Weave secrets untold.
Where butterfly-like violets
Peep through lush leaves,
Drawing intricate patterns
On a canvas of green.
Where tiny bashful bells
With perfect blue curves
Dance slowly in the breeze,
Sprinkle magic in the air.
When the garden falls asleep
Under the glow of the moon
I imagine fairies dancing
To a blue bell's gentle tune.

Another bluebell inspired poem...

Blue Hearts
by Jill Webb

Like water
slipping through
my hands,
crystal clear
perfection.
Two hearts beat
in shades of blue
estranged yet
inseparable.
Mirror image,
spotlight eyes,
etched in
my mind,
indelible.

I was lucky enough to get close enough to some damselflies to take a photograph whilst in Bulgaria last year. The rich, beautiful shade of their blue wings took my breath away and has inspired several poems. Here is one of them.

The Moonbeams
by Jill Webb

Damselfly
tell me
your story,
it's too precious
not to share.
Tell me of
moonbeams
dancing
in the starry
midnight air.

Damselfly
catch my
teardrops,
absorb my
hidden pain.
Capture my
imagination,
help me
to fly
again.

Damselfly
before you
disappear,
make my
story complete.
Cast your spell
in shades of
blue before
finally touching
my cheek.

The next two poems are by Joe Praks. If you would like to connect with Joe on Twitter and read more of his poetry he can be found here or on Instagram here.

Two nests abandoned
Two empty rooms
With no real space
Keeping their distance
From the fate may it turn
Which way to go now?
The sky is out of reach
But the colour of bluest blue
Reminds me oh, so of you and
How I miss those
Two stars sparkling
Like sand in the sun
On the beach.

Blue for the pain
To get so big
I wouldn't feel
Anything at all.
Blue for forget-me-nots
Growing on the rocks
Forgotten maybe but
Never lost.
Never alone nor ever gone
For any cost.
Blue for the bluest blue
Out from the sky
To allow me to realise
I'm drowning once again
In your eyes.

The Candle
by Jill Webb

Candle flame
flickering
gently
whispering,
casting a
soothing glow.

Hypnotic,
heavenly
entranced
together we
explore our
innermost thoughts.

All seeing
shining
dark yet
demystifying,
burning in
my mind's eye.

Chameleon
transforming
remembering
mourning
mirror image
of the soul.

The final poem is already included in an earlier blog post but as it was in part inspired by the colour blue I decided to add it again. It is very special to me as it is the first poem I wrote after a creative gap of 22 years. It marked a turning point and also forms an important part of my first book (which I am currently in the process of writing).

Reflections in Blue

You are
a reflection of me,
a mirror image
of what I see.
All that you feel
I feel it too,
my strengths, my failings
I see in you.

Those glowing shades
of gold and red,
the spark you ignited
inside my head,
without you
my life is incomplete,
a jigsaw puzzle
with a missing piece.
Without you
my life is no longer ablaze,
shades of misty blue
are all that remain.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read the poetry here on my blog. I will be back with more of the same very soon.
